The preceeding is a tweet sent by Terrell Owens confirming that he has indeed been released by the Seattle Seahawks. Owens was signed by Seattle during the second week of training camp. He caught two passes in the two exhibition games he played for 41 yards. Owens was signed to a one-year contract for the veteran minimum, which is just under $1 million for a player of his experience. He was never considered a lock to make the roster, and with Sidney Rice returning from shoulder surgery and Braylon Edwards playing well, he was considered an increasing long shot after his first exhibition game in Denver when he was targeted five times, but had no receptions.

Owens, 38, was signed by Seattle after what was a phenomenal workout for the team. He was time running 40 yards in 4.45 seconds. Owens is No. 2 in receiving yards in league history, but he did not play in the NFL last year after suffering a torn knee ligament in the spring. He played for three different teams in the three seasons before that.

When Seattle signed him, coach Pete Carroll said the team was looking for someone to be a big, physically imposing receiver after the release of Mike Williams. Owens was a candidate. So was Edwards, though the two were playing different positions. After three exhibition games, Edwards ranks second on the team in receiving yards behind tight end Anthony McCoy.

Owens was not made available for comment after either of Seattle’s exhibition games.
